New ISHRA event added: An Historical Museum Collection in the Digital Age Thursday, July 9th at 5:30pm; Discover Portsmouth Center Presentation by Sarah O’Connor, ISHRA Vice-President and Star Island Historical Curator You are cordially invited to attend a special presentation at the Discover Portsmouth Center on Thursday, July 9 at 5:30 p.m. Thanks to a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council, the Vaughn Cottage Museum on Star Island has dramatically updated its cataloguing and research options. Star Island’s historical curator, Sarah O’Connor, spent the winter transcribing many of the artifact record sheets into PastPerfect, a museum cataloguing program. She will discuss some of the challenges of wrangling nearly a thousand catalog records into digital format through a multi-media demonstration. Ms. O’Connor stated: “Our ability to use our collections has significantly improved, and we are looking forward to passing on such benefits to our visitors. Star Island’s museum collections will be much more accessible for research requests from the general public than they have been in previous years. Researchers will be able to use automatic functions to browse thematically and have access to all items pertaining to a specific theme, person, or topic.” We hope to see you at this very special event on July 9th.
