Join ISHRA for a weekend of historic and current literature. Bring your favorite Isles of Shoals Book and relax with it in a porch rocker, or explore the Vaughn Library and the Star Island Bookstore and discover a new read. In cozy discussion groups we will share and discuss our favorite pieces of writing, and with a surprise local author we will lose ourselves in stories of the Shoals. Of course it isn’t all about books, during this slower paced conference we will gather at an ice cream social, with hot coffee on cool mornings on the hotel porch, we will take rowboat trips to Smuttynose Island, and have time to relax in the warm fall sunshine. Visit www.starisland.org to register.
Please join us April 12th at 7:00 pm at the Discover Portsmouth Center in Portsmouth for a presentation by Peter Leach, “Geoarchaeological Investigations along the New Hampshire Coast, Continental Shelf, and Isles of Shoals: The Role of Archaeological Data in the Assessment of Future Impacts of Sea‐level Rise”.
Mr. Leach will focus on recently collected data from New Hampshire’s coast and the Isles of Shoals, and how that information can teach us about the past. He will share explorations of Native American sites and drowned natural environments like the drowned forest at Odiorne Point. What can these past sites tell us about the future? Come find out on April 12 at 7PM. Open to the public, please bring your friends.

Discover the Isles of Shoals through all your five senses: Sight, Sound, Touch, Taste, and Smell. Join ISHRA as we rediscover this magical place in a variety of ways: stand in the footprints of artist Childe Hassam when we visit Appledore Island, learn photography tips from local photographer Alexandra de Steiguer’s and be amazed at her work, try vegetarian seafood dishes prepared by Rutledge Marine Lab’s Arthur Eves, meet the Dawn Birds, and relax in quiet contemplation of the sound of the sea and the smell of the salt air, be a guest at Celia Thaxter’s Salon, and compete in a kayak/dory race to Smuttynose Island.
As always there will be time for relaxing on the porch, laughter and conversation at ISHRA’s daily Social Hours, Chapel Service by candlelight, and a guided art class. It will be a wonderful five days full of all things Shoals.

As summer’s golden haze fades into fall’s crispness, and winter’s crystal white, don’t let your Shoaler friends and family drift too far away. Come together again at ISHRA’s 4th Annual Winter Social. If the past three years are any indication it will be another fun filled ISHRA event. Mark your calendar – Sunday January 31, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Kittery Point. Bring your favorite side dish, appetizer, beverage, or dessert for the pot luck luncheon; the seafood chowder is on us. Most important, don’t forget your photo albums, Shoals memorabilia, and memories to share. This year ISHRA will hold a silent auction for the benefit of ISHRA’s activities, Speakers, and Social Events. If you have an item (not necessarily Shoals related) that you would like to donate, please bring it with you to the Winter Social and plan to arrive at 12:30. Storm date is Sunday February 7, 2013 from 1:00 to 3:30.
